Hiring Styles and Job Distribution Explained

Two fields on the job form decide how a job gets filled and who ever sees it: Hiring style and Distribution. Both are required, and both are worth understanding before you post rather than after.

Before You Begin

  • Both fields are set on the + Post a job form. See Posting a Job to the Dispatch Marketplace for the full form.
  • Reach numbers update live as you change the selection — you can see the trade-off between speed and control before you commit.
  • Know your dispatch radius if you are considering Public.

Step 1: Choose a Hiring Style

Hiring style decides how the job gets filled.

OptionBehaviorUse it when
Apply — org sets rate, org picksYou set the pay. Instructors apply. You choose. You want control over who teaches, and the rate is fixed.
Instant Hire — first applicant winsThe first qualified acceptance takes the job automatically. You need cover fast and any qualified instructor will do.
Bid — instructors propose a rateInstructors propose their own rate; you choose. You are price-discovering, or the work is unusual.

Instant Hire is still gated. It only auto-awards instructors who pass the qualification check. An unqualified instructor cannot claim a job this way.

Step 2: Choose a Distribution

Distribution decides who sees the job.

OptionReach
InternalYour own instructors only.
My NetworkYour instructors plus connected groups. A live reach count is shown.
PublicEvery instructor within your dispatch radius who is open to jobs. The count is shown on the button.

The reach numbers update live as you change the selection, so the speed-versus-control trade-off is visible before posting.

Step 3: Know How Instructors Are Notified

Real-time notifications go out by push, SMS, email and in-app alert.

Instructors control whether they receive them with an Open to jobs toggle on their own profile — and can still browse and apply manually with it off.

Step 4: Understand Privacy Before and After Award

StageWhat the instructor sees
Before awardAn approximate location only. No roster. No contact details.
After awardExact address, directions, full contact details and roster access — for the awardee only.

Only the awardee unlocks the details. Applicants who were not awarded never see the address, roster or contacts.

Step 5: Close the Loop With Reviews

  • After completion both sides leave a 1–5 rating with comments.
  • Ratings stay double-blind until both parties submit or seven days pass.
  • Either party can dispute a rating, which goes to an admin review queue.

Reviews also matter operationally — payment release is linked to completing the post-job review. See Tracking Instructor Payments in Jobs.

Best Practices

  • Match the style to the urgency: Apply when you have time to choose, Instant Hire when you do not.
  • Use Bid sparingly — it is excellent for unusual work and noisy for routine cover.
  • Escalate distribution rather than starting at Public. Internal first protects your relationships and your margin.
  • Watch the live reach count. If My Network already shows a healthy number, Public buys you little.
  • Submit your review promptly. Double-blind ratings only stay useful if both sides actually file them.
